Summer Student Session on Professionalism and Ethics

I just conducted a fun session on ethics and professionalism for the summer students at a Toronto law firm.  I used the video embedded in this post as the fact pattern for discussing a range of issues that might arise in their daily lives (all compressed into one hectic day for an articling student named Samantha).

The students spotted and worked through the following topics:

  • Legal advice (competence)
  • Confidentiality
  • Privilege
  • Docketing
  • Conflicts
  • Ethical Walls
  • Dealing with power dynamics in a firm
  • Challenging situations
  • Good judgment

Feel free to contact me if you are interested in using my resources for a session in your own organization.
